Linux is one of the great examples of collaborative development around free and open-source software. The kernel begun by Linus Torvalds became the foundation of a vast ecosystem of operating systems, tools and communities.
Its influence reaches servers, devices and Android-based phones. What impresses me is not a claim that it wins every comparison, but the range of situations in which people can inspect, adapt and reuse the technology.
No operating system is automatically secure. A Linux installation still needs maintenance, sensible access controls and appropriate configuration. Its security depends on the environment and the people operating it, not simply on the name displayed at startup.
I encourage technical professionals to become comfortable with Linux administration. Other users may value a stable environment for everyday tasks. The best way to understand what the ecosystem offers is to try it, ask questions and learn gradually.
If describing the community around WordPress takes time, describing the communities around Linux would take much longer. For that contribution, I still have a simple word: kiitos. Thank you.
