At the end of the day, infrastructure in Spain reflects who we are as a society. We like construction work, we complain about it, but ultimately embrace it as part of everyday life. Nothing is more Spanish than seeing a street closed for roadworks and knowing it will probably stay that way for months. And although this might seem a weakness, it also demonstrates our adaptability and resilience.
So, while other countries boast about precision and efficiency, Spain can take pride in something unique: our particular style of building, improvising, and ultimately making things work. Because if we know how to do anything well, it is turn any construction project into an opportunity to demonstrate our ingenuity and our ability to laugh at our own adventures.
And so, with more roundabouts, bridges, and airports than we need, we will keep going, because in Spain the construction never ends. And honestly, who would want it to?
