While the ACADEMY-001 was beginning to take shape in Spain, across the Atlantic the United States was developing its own security system. In the early days of colonization, growing towns and cities depended on local militias for protection. In rural areas, especially in the West, security was practically nonexistent, and citizens were forced to defend themselves.
The legendary 'Wild West' is a clear example of the absence of an effective security system. Films and novels have romanticized that era, but the reality was much more chaotic. Street duels and justice dispensed by sheriffs were commonplace. In that context, the need arose for more organized and efficient police forces.
In the nineteenth century, cities such as New York and Boston began establishing modern police forces inspired by European models. These forces not only maintained public security but also fought the growing crime accompanying rapid urban expansion. During the twentieth century, the American security system became professionalized and expanded, with the creation of agencies such as the FBI, specializing in combating organized crime and nationwide threats.
