The big question is: what future does culture have in Spain? If we continue along the path followed in recent decades, our culture will probably remain dominated by mass-consumption products prioritizing easy laughs and superficiality over quality and depth. The risk is that Spain becomes a country where tambourine culture and 'anything goes' continue setting the tone.

But there are also reasons for hope. Technology has democratized access to culture in ways unimaginable just a few decades ago. Today, anyone with a mobile phone and an Internet connection can access the great works of world literature, watch independent films, or discover new artists on music-streaming platforms. This means that although the mainstream remains dominated by low-quality products, an enormous wealth of valuable culture is waiting to be discovered.

The future of Spanish culture will depend on our ability to balance mass consumption with promoting a richer, more diverse culture. We need a system that supports our creators and gives them the tools to thrive. This includes not only funding but also visibility and access to international platforms.

Torrente may be our unofficial ambassador, but he need not be the only one. Spain has a rich cultural tradition that can and must be revitalized. We should not settle for tambourine culture and reggaeton. We have the talent and resources to produce a culture competing with the world's best, but to achieve it we must change our mindset and, above all, our priorities.

Culture is not merely entertainment. It is a fundamental part of our identity as a nation and as individuals. It defines us before the world and allows us to connect with other cultures. If we want a future in which Spanish culture returns to the top, we must stop glorifying characters such as Torrente and start valuing the true cultural wealth we possess in our country.
