If there is one thing we Spaniards are good at, it is imagining that the future will solve all our current problems. In education, the future comes framed in words that sound like science fiction: blockchain, artificial intelligence, virtual classrooms, and personalized curricula. Listening to the politicians and technologists of the moment, it sounds as if in ten years every Spanish child will be programming robots while enjoying a diet rich in transferable skills.

But the reality is that, however much we want to dream of a utopian future, there are many obstacles to overcome. The first is the education system itself, which seems unable to adapt to the rapid changes of the modern world. Curricula designed to train the future citizens of the twentieth century are not ready for the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. And while technological advances are impressive, the question is: are we really ready to implement them?

Meanwhile, the teacher's role is undergoing a profound transformation. It is no longer simply about teaching subjects such as history or mathematics, but about developing critical, creative, adaptable individuals. And, of course, preparing them for jobs that do not yet exist. For some, this means teachers will be replaced by robots or educational platforms that personalize learning through algorithms. Others, more optimistic, believe teachers will matter more than ever, but with a much more flexible approach adapted to new technologies.
